Dual output 300W dc
Bel Fuse is aiming at railways and transportation with a series of dual-output dc-dc converters.
RCM300 converters can deliver ±24V at 300W, with the two outputs independently regulated to deal with asymmetric loads.
There are two types to cover different input ranges:
“The two input voltage ranges cover all common railway batteries,” according to the company. “With low in-rush current, high efficiency and high power density, the devices are suitable for railway traction and auxiliary converters, along with railway power-over-Ethernet.”
That said, the data sheet puts peak in-rush at 120A (24V) or 150A (110V) and there is a capacitor before the limiter. This capacitor is fairly small, requiring extra external capacitance for stable operation with certain supply line situations – covered in the data sheet.
Peak efficiency is between 90 and 93%.
The 116 x 38 x 189mm housings are closed (but perforated) and are designed for chassis mounting.
Options include: an output OK signal, 10ms interruption time (class S2) and a shut-down connection – these come as a single package, and then separately: an output OR-ing fet, a built-in fuse and pluggable connections.
A front-end anti-parallel diode is included to trip an external circuit breaker if the unit is connected with reverse polarity, except in internal fuse variants which have active reverse-polarity protection circuit to protect the fuse in this situation.
The converters come with a five-year warranty and are compliant to EN 50155, EN 50121-3-2, and AREMA electrical standards, EN 45545 and NFPA 130 fire and smoke standards, and IEC/EN 62368-1 and UL/CSA 62368-1 safety standards.
They are available though Digikey and Mouser.
